The Biggest Problem With the World is ME -- Jason Brown

The Biggest Problem With the World is ME -- Jason Brown

On Sunday, Ken shared about something that happened while he was at Starbucks.

As he went into grab some hot chocolate and do some work, a man who was sitting at one of the tables outside was yelling and pointing his finger.  Ken soon realized the man was actually talking with someone on the phone.  About 15 minutes later, the man was still yelling and pointing his finger and Ken thought, "Buddy, you seem to think the problem with the world is the person you're yelling at, but the biggest problem in the world is you."  And after telling that story, Ken shared, "The biggest problem in the world is me.  It's my sin.  It's the ways I'm not following Jesus."

This seems right in line with Greg Dolmage's proposal a few weeks ago about taking a sabbatical on telling the world what it's doing wrong in order to focus on what what we're doing wrong.

I don't like admitting that the problem with the world is me.  I especially don't like doing this when people are already breathing down my throat telling me that the problem with the world is me!  But, when I'm in the room of grace, trusting that God loves me and wants to help me deal with my sin, there's incredible freedom to acknowledge this brutal truth.  Actually, it's been great over the past 3-4 weeks to open up a whole new line of conversation with God in which I'm coming to him with my anxieties, desires, sin and needs throughout the day and asking for his grace and help.

I'd be glad to hear your thoughts on any of the above, how you're growing and changing as a result of the current series, maybe a personal story . . .. or maybe just a good joke that's appropriate to post on a church blog.

Sometimes I am overwhelmed with the problems in our world and wonder what in the world can I do about anything? Then I remember that this world and everything and everybody in it belong to the God that I serve. When I put my trust in the wisdom and love of Jesus Christ, I can expect Him to show me what He wants ME to do about all of the world's problems. If I receive no clear answer, then I know what the Word says - PRAY! Sometimes this seems so insignificant and small, but it in reality is no small thing for He hears the prayers of those that belong to Him. Of course, I get frustrated when nothing seems to change, but I must remember that I do not see the whole picture - I don't know what God is working out in the lives of others or in this world. My responsibility is just to be faithful in what our Lord has called me to do, and that is to intercede when there is not much else that I can do.

If I fail to pray or to obey Him - then I can claim that the problem with this world is, indeed, ME. "Lord Jesus, help me to seek you, hear you, and obey you. I cannot be faithful in this without your help."
