Ken pretty much grew up here at Emmanuel. In 1971, when Ken was 11, his parents and their five sons moved to California so that Harold Korver (Ken’s dad) could serve as the senior pastor of the church. Ken went to the local public schools and a love for Paramount grew deep in his heart. He joyfully married Lisa 25 years ago and they have three kids that they like a lot — Kristi, Kurtis and Kari. (All Korver kids have to be named with a “K” or they get thrown out of the family.)
Spanish Ministries Pastor
Pastor Richard Caballero was born in Uruguay, South America. He immigrated to Canada as a young man and married his wife Alexa 30 years ago and they have 2 daughters, Natalie and Melissa. Richard has been a church planter for 25 years and has started Spanish ministries in Toronto, Canada and in Phoenix, Arizona. Richard has been the pastor of the Spanish ministry at Emmanuel Church since 2015 and feels blessed to serve the Spanish community and work in a church with a great vision and passion for outreach to expand the Kingdom of God.
Pastor of Student Ministries
Dave hails from the south suburbs of Chicago. He has been serving here at Emmanuel over 8 years in the High School Student Ministry. Dave met his beautiful wife Aubrey at the noon service and they have been married 5 years. After completing his Masters in Divinity at Fuller Seminary, Dave was ordained in June 2014. He loves working with students and is so grateful to be working at Emmanuel, a church that longs to serve and bless individuals, families and cities.
Pastor of Care & Outreach
Mike hails from Burbank, CA. He has been serving here at Emmanuel for over 4 years and loves serving at ERC, especially seeing people get plugged in and watching them grow into their full potential for God’s glory. Mike has been married to his beautiful wife Irene for 7 years, and no one can believe how well he married! Mike was called to go into full-time ministry after working in real estate, and graduated from Fuller Seminary in 2007, getting ordained in a Korean church in Sunland, CA.
Pastor of Adult Ministries
After being born and raised the first few years of his life here, Klarc moved and grew up in Iowa. If you ask Klarc about moving back to Emmanuel in 2011, he would say he is finally “home.” After completing his Masters in Divinity at Azusa Pacific, Klarc was ordained in October of 2015. In regards to family life, Klarc married “up” and enjoys life with his bride – Bobbie. As their family continues to grow they hope to have enough children to host their own basketball starting lineup. They find ministering to the adults and couples of Emmanuel to be very life giving and are eager to see what God has in store for Emmanuel in the years to come!
Pastor of Young Adults & Communication
C.J. was born and raised in Pella, Iowa, a small Dutch community in the heart of the Midwest. While he still loves Iowa, and will specifically tell you of his die-hard passion for the Iowa State Cyclones, he has found a new home in Southern California. Three years ago he met his amazing wife, Bethany, and she certainly helped him commit to staying around the area for a bit longer! In his free time, C.J. enjoys exercising, attempting to build things, watching sports, and dissecting movies with Bethany!
Director of Junior High Ministries
Jon grew up right next door in Bellflower, attending Mayfair High School and then Long Beach State, majoring in Coaching Psychology. He met his wife Jackie on the school’s Rowing Team. The two of them have been married for 6 years. Recently, Jon went back to coach the Rowing team at Long Beach State. While coaching, Jon obtained his Master’s Degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. Jon finds joy in finding creative ways to connect students and with their Creator.
Director of Adult Discipleship, Development, & Children
Jody Gras grew up in Artesia, CA where she was raised in a Christian home. Jody, her husband Johnny, and two children-Tyler and Lauren came to Emmanuel Church in 2000 and enjoyed serving in a variety of areas including Kids Klub and Jr. High Ministries. Jody joined our staff in 2005 as the Director of the 5th & 6th Grade Ministries and is currently serving as Director of Adult Discipleship and Development. Jody and her family love being a part of the Emmanuel Church family.
Spanish Ministries Coordinator
Jonathan was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. At age 11 his family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. Jonathan started volunteering at his local church where he helped with the worship and youth ministries. At age 20, he started leading worship at his church. In 2015 he moved to Paramount, CA and is currently the worship and youth director for Spanish ministries at Emmanuel.
Celebratory Arts Director
Bob Olson grew up in the small town of Starbuck, Minnesota. In 1974, started his music career as a teacher of instrumental and choral music at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. After two USO tours to Germany and Alaska, he and his beautiful bride Chris enrolled at California State University, Long Beach in 1980 where he earned a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting. To supplement his income while in school, he accepted a job leading worship at Emmanuel Church. That job stuck, and for the past 37 years, Bob has helped grow the music ministry to include multiple choirs, an orchestra, sacred dance, drama, and worship bands. His wife Chris is an accompanist for the music ministry and business administrator for the After-School ministry of the church and they love their three children. (Garrett, Angelique, and Arielle)
Harold grew up on a farm in Iowa and lived in a house without electricity and without indoor plumbing. Harold married Shirley 60 years ago and they have six sons; Kevin, Karl, Keith, Kris, Ken and Rick. God called Harold to serve at Emmanuel 41 years ago and he says these 41 years have been the most rewarding years of his life.
Children's Ministry Director
Cathy grew up in Norwalk, CA with a big family. She started attending Emmanuel in 2007. She enjoys working in the nursery and in our Kids Klub ministries and is currently our Director of Children’s Ministry. Cathy has earned her Bachelors’ degree in Psychology and minored in Child Development. Her and her husband Michael met here at Emmanuel Church and they have a son named Andrew. Cathy loves babies and children, and thinks that working with children is the best job in the world!
Adult Ministries Coordinator
Nancy serves in Adult Ministries providing administrative support to the amazing and fantastic volunteers of Emmanuel who lead its Basic Care Groups, Adult Sunday Classes, Mini- Churches, and Marriage Groups. She also really enjoys getting people into these groups! For couples getting married she oversees Emmanuel’s Pathway to Marriage. Nancy grew up in Arizona, met her husband Warren in college, and they married in 1983. Together they lead in Couples Ministry where they get to hang out with couples of all ages! They have three grown children (Michael, Emily and Bryson) and are grateful for the role Emmanuel has played in helping them raise their own family the last 33 years!
Director of Noon Service Worship Arts
Vickie started her career in music at age 6, when she sang “The Star Spangled Banner” for her elementary school. Since then, she has had experience in music, dance, acting, and theater arts, performing worldwide in countries all across the globe. Throughout her career, Vickie has sung on TV shows, commercials, and more, but worship of God is her first love, and so it was in 2004 that she received a call from Emmanuel Church to become our Noon Service worship leader and choir director, and she has been here ever since! To this day, she loves what she does and has never regretted taking a position by serving in the church, and Emmanuel is grateful she accepted the call when she did!
Mike DeMaster served as a educator and coach for 20 years before answering the call to serve as ERC’s Executive Administrator. He and his wife Krista began attending Emmanuel back in 1997 and have three children Max, Kate and Lily.
In his free time, Mike enjoys surfing and playing with his family.
David is a Cali native who grew up in Lakewood. His passion for music started early in a beginners guitar class as a high school freshman, which led him to study Audio Recording at Cal State-Dominguez Hills. He met his wife, Khomie, at a church they were attending and have been married since 2010. When David isn’t behind the sound board he enjoys spending time with Khomie, tinkering on cars, and strumming his guitar.
Ruth was born in May 1960 in Lynwood, CA and has lived in Bellflower all of her life. Her Emmanuel roots go deep as her grandparents were charter members helping to start Emmanuel over 85 years ago. Her parents met and married at Emmanuel as did Ruth and her husband, Michael.
Ruth has a Bachelors Degree in Business from Cal State Long Beach. She previously worked in the areas of Human Resources, Sales and Real Estate Joint Ventures and has worked at Emmanuel for the last sixteen years. She truly believes that God has used her past experiences to train her so that she can be used to serve here at Emmanuel.
Children's Ministry Assistant
Natalie was born in Toronto, Canada. She moved to Phoenix, AZ at age 10 with her family when her father received the call to plant a Spanish Ministry with the Reformed Church in America. In early 2015 she and her family moved to Paramount, where her father is now the pastor of the Spanish Ministry at Emmanuel Reformed Church. She has been working with children since she was 16 years old as a Sunday School teacher and at a preschool center. She is currently studying to get her degree in Psychology and works in Children’s Ministries here at Emmanuel.
Director - Compton Initiative
Jeudy grew up in the Lakewood area and started attending Emmanuel in 2013. Jeudy has worked with non-profits for over 10 years and in September 2013 Jeudy started working with The Compton Initiative – organizing projects for the quarterly Compton Workdays. Jeudy is passionate about mobilization of the church and transformation of the city. He currently lives in Compton with his wife, Shea.
Director - After School Program
Mayte started to attending Emmanuel in 2003. She was hired to work the main office desk in 2006, but this was only the start for her here! Mayte now runs our After School Program and Summer Day Camp as the Director of each. She believes in making a difference in each student’s life, and makes it her priority to spend time with the students and their families. Mayte is happily married and the mother of two amazing children!
Director - Emmanuel Preschool
Karrie grew up in Paramount and went to Paramount schools her whole childhood. She first started coming to Emmanuel through FUDD (high school ministry) with high school friends and met her husband at Emmanuel. They have two girls, Jessika and Jenae. Karrie first started working at church as Children’s Ministries Director, and has since become the Director of Emmanuel’s Preschool, where she’s been for 20 years and loves it!
Director - Project Hope
Mike has lived in Paramount for most of his life. He first visited Emmanuel way back in 1964, when he attended Vacation Bible School. He has been at Emmanuel Church for over a decade, and has been on Staff as Director of Project Hope since 2011, Welcome Center Coordinator since 2013, and Coordinator of “Pitch in Paramount” since 2016. A graduate of Paramount High School and Cal State Long Beach with a B.S. in Operations Management, he is also an avid student of California history, and love to spend his vacations exploring all areas of our Golden State . He is also a serious “urban explorer” with Los Angeles the focus of that endeavor.
Administrative Assistant - Student Ministries
Krystal has been attending Emmanuel since 2011. In 2012, she attended Alpha (Intro to the Christian Faith) with her then boyfriend, Rudy Lopez. God met them there and she recommitted her life to him. Krystal and Rudy were married shortly after and now have 2 young boys, David and Jonathan. Krystal was brought on staff in 2013 as the Nursery Supervisor and Sunday School Coordinator. She now works behind the scenes for Kids Klub, Edge, and Rock as the administrator for Children’s and Student Ministries.
Savannah was born and raised in rural Nebraska, and just graduated from Northwestern College with two degrees in Art and Christian Education/Youth Ministry. She will be working in the student ministries department while continuing school through Western Theological Seminary’s online Masters of Divinity program with an emphasis in urban work and church planting.
