Maybe It's Not a Dog-Eat-Dog World -- Jason Brown

First off, check out the Story of the Week by CLICKING HERE.  It's Mitch Wybenga's testimony.  Feel free to post a comment on that story on this page.

Pastor Larry focused on the persevering faith of the woman.  I focused on Jesus' discipleship of the 12.  That's one of the things I like about stories -- you can put yourself in the shoes of any of the characters.  With the story in Mark 7, you could see things from the perspective of the woman, the twelve or even Jesus. There is no single point of reference.

So, what are you coming away with from the sermon?

What I'm getting...again...is that Jesus is unpredictable, surprising, out-of-the-box, truly other-worldly. Just when I think I've got him figured out he does something else that pushes me to the absolute limits of my understanding. He makes me squirm and laugh and cry--sometimes all at once!

Pastor Larry highlighted the disciples' and even the woman's mindset that she was unworthy to receive an answer to her request. I have to admit that this is so often my own perspective when it comes to asking for things from our Lord. I don't know why this is when I am so aware of what scripture tells me about God's willingness to give good things to His kids. Pastor Larry made me recognize again that I am, indeed, worthy to receive good things from my Heavenly Father. However, I must always remember that our Lord Jesus paid a dreadful price upon that cross, not only for my salvation, but also that I can have the assurance that the promises in scripture concerning my needs and desires (according to His will)are mine. My worthiness rests entirely upon the worthiness of Jesus Christ who loves me and gave Himself for me. I can accept this truth now.
