Meeting Jesus on the 605 South -- Jason Brown

Meeting Jesus on the 605 South -- Jason Brown

I loved Bill's story about Jesus exceeding his expectations on the 605 the other day.  One of his beloved kids needed an attitude adjustment on the way to their annual Pre-Christmas family breakfast.  Bill felt his anger rising, "_________ is going to ruin our special breakfast!" Fortunately, the Spirit stopped him for a minute -- just long enough for Bill to invite Jesus into the situation.  Then this thought came: "Bill, maybe it's your anger that will ruin the special breakfast." Whoa! So, he pulled over and the whole family prayed.  They got back on the road and had a great time as a family.  Bill just threw up a little prayer, but Jesus exceeded his expectations.

I wonder if you have any stories of how Jesus has exceeded your expectations of late -- big or small, it doesn't matter.  Take a minute to post your story and help us celebrate the fact that Jesus is with us.

Last night my jazz band played at a Christmas program at a church a couple of the guys go to. During sound check there was quite a bit of tension between two of the guys and things just weren't clicking musically. We stopped and prayed for help and guidance. I don't think that we've ever sounded or played better together than we did last night.

This fall I've been teaching the Psalms in Coffee Break--kind of a "default decision" based on the availability of materials, etc. I really didn't expect the women to respond so positively--I actually thought they might find the Psalms somewhat boring! And I also didn't expect to be as blessed and challenged as I've been personally. I've been humbly reminded again that God always shows up when we open his Word--even when we're not excited about it! After hearing Bill's message and reading Jason's comments, I'm wrestling with the thought that my expectations of Jesus are usually far too small. What bigger things would he do if I asked him? And why am I hesitant to ask?

Within the Connect community, we have had the opportunity and privilege to help our brothers and sisters that have found themselves in financial need. After the most recent showing of generosity, I noticed that everybody that gave felt blessed to give. They even thanked me for the opportunity. This got me to thinking that maybe I should have a list of these people that actually "want" to give. So I started asking around. As of right now the list contains 26 NAMES!!! These people expect to be called when a need arises. I am blown away by this even though it is clearly the way of Jesus.

Two weeks ago, at the Share Christmas Store my wife Evie & I worked in the gift wrapping area. A young woman approached us and as we began to wrap her many gifts, we realized that she had a really bad cold and was probably sick. When I asked if we could pray for her she did not understand because she spoke spanish. An interpreter was nearby and he asked her. With tears in her eyes she said yes. We simply got up and walked over to her and layed hands on her and asked the Lord to touch her and heal her. She had the most amazing smile on her face when she left with her gifts, but the greatest gift of all was when she allowed Jesus to touch her in her moment of great need.

I recently made a job change from teaching at an award winning school in a middle income neighborhood to a school that teaches students whose parents are at poverty level. Many of these students do not have even their basic needs met from their parent(s) at home. Since I have started in September this change has been extremely overwhelming. Eventhough I made the change because I sensed a call to teach this type of population. Before our "Winter (Christmas) Break" started a student gave me a home-made card saying, Merry Christmas, with glitter on the front. Where he found glitter I still do not know. This single parent child does not have much of what many of us take for granted. Anyway, inside the mother wrote out a very complimentary note in English (she and the student speak very, very limited English) about how proud she was of her son's progress, and to thank me for teaching him so much. Just one more way the Lord provides for His children who seek to be faithful to His call ("Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven").

Wow I can relate to meeting/needing Jesus on the Coloarado St.Friday night lights high school football one of my favorite pastimes since my son was starting for Long Beach Wilson. I could not stop thinking of football all-day long until I received a disturbing call. A polite woman with a soft voice informing me my son was missing work and had excessive tardies in her English class. Why is this happening on my friday,my no work friday as I thought to myself. Ahhhhhhh! man my blood started to boil instantly like fish grease. Without hesitation I immediately grab my car keys and headed out the door toward that school. While I was driving in the car Carol told me to calm down and stop driving so fast. "We need to pray and pull over bae you need to be in the right state of mind" said, carol I realize she was totally right. I pull the car over and we pray for about ten minutes “Lord please direct me and guide me in a clam manner when going up to this school. WoW it felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted off my shoulders because I felt much better and composed. I did not think of this prayer at that moment Psalm 50;15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor me. Now I have this one for situation like that. J.R
